My search for best snooker cue stick
I’d been playing snooker for a while, mostly with the club-provided sticks. Those cues, though functional, always felt like they lacked that personal connection. Also ,the chances of getting hold of a good club-cue stick with good shaped tip and a good balance was rare and mostly a gamble , since the best of the sticks would have been already taken by other players .
A poor club- cue stick, a misshaped tip, and average cueing skills only made for a worse game and an even worse outcome mostly leading to game losses. With all these negative factors piling up, buying a personal cue seemed like the logical next step. At least that way, I’d have control over one of the variables.”
Every serious snooker player I met had their own cue, each with a backstory about how it became a part of their game. It was time for me to find mine.
So, with mind made up – the search for my own cue stick began !!
My initial budget was Rs. 2000 , but then i felt a low cost cue stick won’t take me far, and then i increased my buying budget to Rs. 4000 , though i knew the better cue stick range started at Rs. 10000 , but then i reasoned , that I would upgrade myself to that higher range after I had shown some improvement with my cuing skills .
I reckoned –
It's not just about the cue stick; mastering cueing skills was far more important. Even the best equipment couldn't compensate for my poor technique. It's like me having a luxury car but not knowing how to drive — it won't get me much far !!
So finally i chose Snooker Alley over other online and offline suppliers .
Why did I choose Snooker Alley ?
- They have been in the game and business of Snooker , Pool and Billiard’s accessories for quite a long time and that logically makes them know cue sticks a lot better than many.
- They are a physical outlet apart from operating an online selling platform – that meant , I could touch and feel the cue stick before buying . I feel It’s crucial to touch and feel a cue stick before buying it. No matter how great it looks on paper or a website, you need to know if it feels right in your hands. Think of it like buying a pair of shoes—you wouldn’t just go by size and style; you need to walk in them to know if they’re truly comfortable. Tactile experience before making a purchase of cue stick as per me – is the only way ..
Not to my surprise i walked out of Snooker Alley with a Rs. 5500 stick (Remember My initial budget was Rs. 4000) , add to that i also purchased an aluminum cue stick holding case !!
so the final math was Rs. 5500 for the 3/4 cue stick with short extension + Rs. 3500 for the aluminum cue stick holding case + Free Chalk – Total Rs. 9000 (taxes inclusive)
There’s something undeniably thrilling about getting your first snooker cue stick. It’s more than just a piece of equipment—it’s a symbol of commitment, a partner for countless games, and the tool that will help you refine your craft. A new chapter in my snooker journey begins.
I ran my hand along the length of the cue, feeling the texture of the wood and imagining all the frames I was about to play with it. The cue had a certain elegance to it, almost as if it demanded respect, and I was more than willing to give it.
The Holding Case
They say if you have a dream , you need to protect it !! my dream cue stick needed protection too, . The case was sturdy and internally lined with soft material , ensuring that my new prized possession stayed safe from any accidental bumps or scratches. Carrying it around felt official, like I was entering a new realm of serious players.
The convenience of the case wasn’t lost on me either. Whether I was headed to the club for a casual practice session or gearing up for a tournament, having a proper case made transporting my cue effortless. Plus, it became a conversation starter. Other players would nod in approval, and some even asked to see the cue, which only added to the excitement.
Our First Game Together
When I took the cue out for its first spin, it felt like we were forming a partnership. My shots were smoother, my control was better, and there was an extra sense of confidence I hadn’t experienced before. There’s something about playing with your own cue—it fits you just right, and suddenly, the table doesn’t seem as intimidating. Every break, every precise shot, felt like the cue was doing half the work. It was like the cue and I were in sync, reading each other’s movements.
The Bond Between Player and Cue
Over time, i expect my first cue stick to became an extension of my hand, and no..I didn’t wish to win every match , every frame , my objective always was to play a great game , loosing was ok , winning did call for a little celebration !!
The bond between a snooker player and their cue is personal, and that first one will always hold a special place in heart. After all, it’s the cue that turned a casual hobby into a passion.
